The VNV Nation concert was just incredible last night!



Ayria was the first act and they did a great set. It was nice to see them in a larger venue, as we had only seen them at Shampoo when they opened for The Cruxshadows.



The second band, War Tapes, we awesome. We had never seen or even heard of them before. Their music is not from the same genre as VNV and Ayria so it was a bit unexpected. There was no synths, no 'electronica', just a Telecaster, a Stratocaster, a Precision Bass and a real live drum kit! Very 'punk rock' inspired. It was great to see an act actually 'Play Music".



VNV played for almost 2 hours, playing mostly tracks from their new effort "Of Faith, Power and Glory". They did mix in some old favorites from Futureperfect, Praise The Fallen, Empires, Matter + Form and Judgement. A young lady in the front row of the audience had an issue and went out cold. Ronan sprung into action, pulled the girl up onto the stage, picked her up in his arms and carried her off teh side of the stage to get medical attention. It turns out she had just fainted and was OK, but it was a scary moment and Ronan was visibly upset. It was amazing to see him so in tune with the audience that he saw wahat was going on and became involved in a solution. He also provided updates on her as the show progressed and she came out on stage and gave Ronan a hug just before the show ended.



We had a great time but didn't get home until 1:15am. I guess i should drag my sorry ass off to work now!

Dave is off to Summer camp for the week.



Gina and I are off to see VNV Nation at the TLA on South Street in Philly tonight. We are hoping for a good show, they were awesome last year!



Gina, Chrissy and Liam are going to see Green Day on Tuesday. They are not really my 'cup of tea' so I declined!

Busy week so far!

I've been going non stop since last Saturday.



Gina and I went to the beach on Saturday...Yes FM evn though it was the Jersey "Shore", WE still call it "The Beach"! You can't take the NY/CT terms out of us and substiture Philly/South Jersey!



Saunday I got some free tickets to the Phillies game so we all headed down there and had a great day at the Ball Park.



Monday...Hell it was only 2 days ago but I don't remember what we did Monday night. I just recall work was a bitch and it's not going to get any better for the rest of the week.



Yesterday work was hectic again. I made it home a tad late for dinner. I had to stop by the business office of the Y to make some changes to our account and I had a "Session" (Board of Elders) meeting at church. Usually July meetings last an hour or so...But not this time. One of the Church's employees is being harrassed by her soon to be ex Step Father. We had to have police guarding the church last Sunday and we had to figue out what to tell the congregation and the parents of the youngest members as the employee works in the nursery!



Today I am sure work will be more of the same. I am in charge of a "Movie night" at church tonight so I will be there all evening.



Thursday evening I have to be at David's Scout meeting as it is the final meeting before summer camp.



So if you haven't seen me around or don't see me around this week....This is why!

Sunblock only works well if properly applied.



Apparently I missed the side of my right thigh and the back of my lesft knee and a patch on the right side of my back. 6 Hours in the sun at the beach + random application of the SPF-85 means I am still bright white over 75% on my body, and burnt red over 25%.



Feh.

Man killed in Pamplona's running of the bulls



A man died after being gored in the neck during the annual running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, the Navarra regional government said Friday on its Web site.



Three other runners were gored and suffered less serious injuries on Friday, and six others went to the hospital with bruises or other injuries, the Navarra government said. Emergency workers and ambulances line the route to quickly attend those who fall.

Due to all of the economic turmoil the City of Philadelphia has had to keep closed a large number of community swimming pools. It is quite common for the Day Care centers in this area to have one day a week scheduled as "Water Day". They typically arrange for the use of a community pool or swim club pool one day a week for the kids in their center to enjoy water activities. The centers typically pay for the access to the pools.



I read this story today in the Philadelphia papers:



Phila. camp alleges racism at Montco swim club

A Huntington Valley swim club is facing accusations of racial discrimination after 65 children from a Northeast Philadelphia day camp claim they heard prejudicial remarks by club members and later had their club membership rescinded.



The children, kindgergarten through 7th graders who attend the Creative Steps, Inc. day camp, showed up to the pool at The Valley Swim Club on June 29.



While the campers were swimming, Alethea Wright, executive director of Creative Steps, said three children came up to her and said they heard club members asking what African Americans were doing at the club.



Repeated attempts to reach club President John Duesler and other club officers were unsuccessful. A Philadelphia Inquirer reporter was asked to leave the club premises when he asked for a comment. NBC 10 reported today that Duesler made the following statement: "There was concern that alot of kids would change the complexion .....and the atmosphere of the club."



Several days after the incident, Wright said the camp's $1,950 check in membership fees to the swim club was refunded, meaning the children no longer had access to the pool. She said Duesler did not provide a reason for the refund.







Some more details -



Huntington Valley is a VERY snooty suburb of predominantly white upper middle class to upper class people that boarders Philadelphia. Northeast Philadelphia is a middle class portion of The City of Philadelphia. There are many different racial ethnic groups in various areas of NE Philly. It is NOT in any way shape or form "ghetto" or full of "dangerous" people. Just hard working folks making a decent life for their families.



These dirt bags at the swim club were happy to take the money from the Day Care for a few hours of access to their pool a few days during the summer. Until (horrors of horrors) the kids who showed up at the pool were not white! Other accounts of the incident say that as soon as the daycare kids got in the pool all the nice little white boys ang girls got out of the pool and asked mommy,"Why are THOSE people in OUR swim club?". The managment on scene immediatly asked the Day Care teachers to gather up their kids and leave as they "didn't fit".



Isn't it telling how the managment says that these kids would "Change the complexion" of their happy little enclave of whitness?



These people make me sick! How the hell can we ever get past race and color? WHY should it matter what race these poor kids were? They paid to use the facilities and I'm sure if a bunch on "nice white kids" showed up the day care would still be using this club.

The past day or so I have been rating in the "books" section. The average book entry has had 250 - 300 views. WTF is up with that? 11,000+ people and only 300 have even looked at this?

It was such a nice morning I drove into work with the car windows open. I parked the car and decided to leave the window open as it was bright sunny and was supposed to stay that way.



At around 2:00pm I heard the distinctive sound of rain pouring down on the roof of the plant. I got up from my desk, ran out of my office, down the stairs into the plant, across the entire plant, out the door, across the parking lot (in the pouring rain), got into the car, turned the key and put the windows up....just as the rain stopped!



Damned cloud bursts!



At least I didn't have a sunroof to leave open like the girl from HR parked next to me!

Why can't some of you fine folks use some common sense? I don't typically discuss "Sentoraning" in my journal but I though I should put forth this plea:



PLEASE read the VR manual and make sure your profile and portfoilio are in compliance before you come and rate me. It really make me sad to visit a profile to return a rate...especially if someone gave me a "10" only to go to return the rate and find a blatent violation of the rules. This makes me feel like a real asshole..Thanks for the 10...Here's a suspension!



Relly is it a good idea to go up to a police car and spill your beer on the cop when you are drunk in public? If you have an illegal cable hook up do you call Comcast when you have some static?



Don't make the job so easy!

I'll skip the details so I don't confuzzle anyone, but what I though was going to be a 30 min job to fix Gina's rattling muffler turned into a 3 hour ordeal!



On top of that I woke up with a bad sore throat and snuffy nose. I hope I 'm not getting sick. David has had a bad cold for the last few days so I guess he's spreading the joy!

233 years ago, just 18 miles South East of where I sit a group of brave men took the bold step of declaring what they believed. The the people have a right to choose who holds the reigns of power. These are the words they agreed on and the words that set forth a sea change across teh world. All who live under democtatic rule on Earth owe them gratitude and honor.





When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.



We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. He has refused to pass other laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of representation in the legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.

For suspending our own legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.



He has abdicated government here, by declaring us out of his protection and waging war against us.



He has plundered our seas, ravaged our coasts, burned our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.

Cars again

I put new brakes on Gina's car today. My excitement for the day off!



One side wasn't bad but the other was a nightmare! The rotor was ruined as the inner pad was toatlly gone and it was going metal to metal. I boke a bolt trying to remove the caliper, had to drill it out and get a new one. I couldn't get the rotor off, had to use penetrating fluid, a torch, and a sledgehammer!



Putting that side back together was a challenge as well. for some reason the clips that hold the pads in were all wacky and it took me 45 min to finagle the pads back in.



Then I had to enlist Chrissy to help me to bleed the brakes. She didn't get the whole "pump and hold" idea so when I opened the valve she started pumping the pedal again and i got cevered in brake fluid!



On the bright side I saved about $120.00!

Why is it the "short" weeks at work seem to last the longest? The past four days at work just dragged, with everything seeming to take more effort than it should!



At least we all got free lunch to celebrate Independance Day on Wednesday - Hot dogs, chips and pie!



MMMMM I love pie!
